Over the week of March 2 – 8, 2025, members of Chapel Hill Branch volunteered as plant seed growers for a nonprofit organization. We picked up seeds and starter kits and distributed them to some members. Each starter kit has 36 cells and can plant 36 plants. Each member used their own time to prepare the peat pellets in the plastic tray, carefully making a shallow hole in the top of each peat pellet, then dropping 1-2 seeds into each hole and gently covering the seeds with the surrounding peat. We have planted cherry tomatoes, spinach, hot peppers, beans, kale, squash, cucumbers, broccoli, watermelon, green snap beans, and wildflower seeds.
To ensure the healthy growth of these baby seeds, we will water them daily and monitor their progress. The sponsor will check on them every two weeks to provide additional support and guidance. Our goal is to nurture 144 plants over the next 6-8 weeks before transplanting them to the community garden. We are excited to see our plants thrive and contribute to the community’s green space.
This initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also fosters a sense of community and teamwork among our members. We look forward to the positive impact our efforts will have on the local ecosystem and the joy it will bring to everyone involved.
