Syosset AYLUS Organization Helps out at the Greenhouse in various tasks on 02/15/25

On February 15th, the Syosset AYLUS organization volunteered at the Long Island Native Plant Initiative to assist at the greenhouse. We performed various tasks both inside the greenhouse and outside at the nursery. With a large number of AYLUS members helping out that day, we were split into different groups. One group assisted with soil tasks, such as opening soil bags, applying fertilizer, and watering the soil to ensure it was perfectly moist for future use. Another group helped sift seeds at a different table using tools like a grater and a collective tray underneath to collect the seeds. We also used a compound to help preserve the soil during the freezing winter, preventing the moisture from freezing inside the soil. Additionally, we collected snow, crushed it into smaller particles, and laid it over the soil in a different greenhouse where the water system was broken. We hoped the snow would melt and provide water for the plants. Overall, the Syosset AYLUS organization was very successful in helping out at the greenhouse and accomplished the goals that were set at the beginning.
