On February 8, 2025, volunteers from the Aylus Great Neck assisted Great Neck Park District and The Great Neck Chinese Association with the Spring Festival Gala.The volunteers started working at 11:30 a.m. and ended at 2:30 p.m. In the morning, the volunteers assisted in preparing the venue at the Andrew Sterglopoulos Ice Rink, mainly responsible for writing scrolls, hanging oil paintings, etc., so that the entire venue was filled with a strong festive atmosphere. The red lanterns were hung high, symbolizing the joy of the New Year, and the beautiful couplets added a strong Chinese cultural atmosphere to the gala. In addition to setting up the venue, they also helped to tidy up the venue, helped the staff in charge of the painting part to clean up and post the works to make the venue more ornamental. The artworks are creative and colorful. They posted it carefully to ensure that each painting can be clearly seen by the audience.
At 12 noon, the event started on time. First, there was a wonderful skating performance, where actors performed various difficult movements on the ice on skates. Then there were performances by students from various clubs in the school, including lion dance, street dance, etc. Finally, our Aylus volunteers showed off their skills.The volunteers in the afternoon session each had their own duties. Some helped distribute cold and delicious drinks, some wrote sincere blessings for tourists, and some taught tourists to weave their own Chinese knots.
Although the three hours of volunteer work was hard, it was of great significance to the Aylus ’s volunteers. Being able to participate in the preparation of such a cultural event not only exercised our teamwork ability, but also made us feel the lively atmosphere of the Spring Festival more deeply. I hope that our efforts can make this Spring Festival Gala more exciting, and I look forward to participating in more similar volunteer activities in the future!
