AYLUS Bellaire volunteered at Lunar New Year Festival on February 1, 2025

From 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, the Bellaire Branch of AYLUS volunteered at the Chinese Community Center 2025 Lunar New Year Festival (9800 Town Park Dr., Houston, TX 77036).

The Chinese Community Center is an organization that provides educational, cultural, and social services in Houston. Some of the core programs offered by the CCC include ESL instruction, a Senior Employment Program, a Benefits Enrollment Center, a Financial Opportunity Center, homebuyer education, and free tax preparation. Their annual Lunar New Year Festival celebrates the holiday with performances, food, cultural workshops, and family activities.

During this event, members of the AYLUS Bellaire Branch worked in a variety of areas to make sure the festival ran smoothly. In the morning, volunteers helped to set up booths for the festival. Additionally, volunteers helped run game and food booths by assisting visitors with activities, preparing food, and taking orders. Finally, volunteers were a part of cleanup efforts at the end of the festival.

This event had shifts of 4 hours each, and 12 AYLUS volunteers participated in this event in total. Miranda Wang, Justin Ye, Derek Sun, and Isabel Li participated in the first shift (8AM-12PM); David Li, Julianne Lee, Celestia Li, Heng-An Vivienne Chen, and Hubert Tan participated in the second shift (12PM-4PM); Calvin Dai, Chris Dai, and Eric Liu participated in the third shift (4PM-7PM).
