On January 11th, from 10am to 12:30pm, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteered at the Long Island Native Plant Initiative. It had been a very cold and windy day, but luckily we got to work inside of their greenhouse in St. Josephs Convent and helped with preparing seeds and seedings. Total over 30 people combined with the LINPI greenhouse volunteers, we were able to accomplish so much to remove seeds from the seedings. At the end, volunteers also cleaned up the place by raking the branches and sticks on the floor.
LINPI is the Long Island Native Plant Initiative. Their goal is to propagate as many native plants as possible – especially those good for pollinators. They not only use native plants, they use ones with the proper Long Island genome and according to our ecoregion. Glowing plants is labor intensive and our volunteers assistances are greatly appreciated.
