Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Food Bank (69th) (1/6/2025)

Reported by Adora Xiao :

On January 6, 2025, Murrieta AYLUS volunteered at their local food bank.
Starting with a quick safety briefing, the volunteers then put on their gloves and got to work. Responsible for a crate of oranges, they learned about what types of oranges and bruising were able to be kept and what was to be discarded. They unraveled and stretched their net bags before stocking them bags full, then twisted off the end and carefully tied off. Making sure the bags didn’t undo from the bottom, the bags were deposited into a separate crate. Eventually, they got too low in the crate to bend over and take more oranges, so the crate shell was lifted and the volunteers sat on the floor to take from the floor. After dropping off their last bags of oranges, they decided to give potatoes a spin. The potatoes were able to withstand more rot than the oranges and they were able to help bag the remainder of the potatoes easily, so they moved on to the onions. Given the size of the onions only a few fit, and they threw out the few slimy onions before bagging up the rest and concluding their shift.
