In time for the season of giving, the AYLUS Bellaire branch hosted a clothing drive to donate clothes to the Houston Children’s Charity (HCC) Closet Program. The HCC Closet Program provides new and gently used clothing and shoes to children and their families, giving them a stress-free shopping experience at no cost.
The volunteers designed and printed the flyers that would be distributed to people of the Bellaire community. The flyer included a Google Form which people would fill out with their address when they were ready to donate clothes. Megan Wang also designed a “thank you” note which was put into mailboxes of the houses which donated clothes. On 11/23 from 9AM-11AM, the volunteers passed out the flyers to houses in Bellaire. Since not all the flyers were passed out, some volunteers continued to pass out flyers on 11/30 from 2PM-5PM. On 12/5, they went to the addresses to pick up donations from 6pm to 7pm. Some AYLUS Bellaire members also collected, organized, and drop off collected clothing donations at Megan’s house.
In total, 9 families in the Bellaire community and 11 AYLUS members donated several gallon bags of clothing, estimating 40+ 13-gallon bags. Houston Children’s Charity has been contacted to schedule a drop-off time for the donations.
