From 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 30, the Bellaire Branch of AYLUS volunteered at the Houston Food Bank(535 Portwall St, Houston, TX 77029).
The Houston Food Bank is a nonprofit and the U.S.’s largest food bank in distribution. Through a network of more than 1,600 community partners, the organization provides hunger relief in 18 Southeast Texas counties by distributing food and other essentials.
At this event, members of the AYLUS Bellaire Branch worked to organize unsorted dry goods donated to the food bank. Donated items were cleaned, checked for expiration date, and then packaged into specific boxes. In this shift, volunteers were able to fill around 24 pallets with 576 boxes, creating 12,743 pounds of food equivalent to 10,619 meals.
