On Sunday, November 24th, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch had the privilege of visiting the CP Nassau Bayville location. In addition to our regular activities, two musical groups performed for the residents: the AYLUS Roslyn Music Group and the Syosset Fortune Star Band!
The Roslyn Music Group is made up of talented musicians from all across Roslyn who dedicated their time to perform and spread music to people who have special needs and create a wonderful, engaging environment for everyone to enjoy. This group, along with the Syosset Fortune Star Band, performed at the Bayville Care Center which houses people with Cerebral Palsy. After the usual activities were carried out, the residents were all brought out to the recreational room, where they would watch our performers with excitement. The Syosset Fortune Star band went first, and performed fan favorites such as Take On Me, Viva La Vida, Love Song of the West Sea, Dancing Queen, and even Happy Birthday, for any of the members who had their birthday In November. Then, our Roslyn Music Group took the stage, with each of the 5 members performing different solos for the residents to watch. They played Cello Concerto in C by Haydn, Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, The Swan by Saint-Saëns, Little Romance by Schumann, and La Paloma by Rieu. Our performances were well received, as the residents swayed along with it expressing their gratitude for our music.
Overall, this was a very heartwarming experience for us. The residents were all very pleased with our performances and expressed their appreciation after the show was over. Seeing the joy in the residents made us feel extremely good and will encourage us to continue spreading music to other people.
