On Sunday, November 24th, from 10:30 to 1:30, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch had a very special visit to the CP Nassau Bayville location. Along with our usual activities, two music groups performed for the residents: the AYLUS Roslyn Music Group and the Syosset Fortune Star Band!
The Roslyn Music Group and the Fortune Star Band are two talented groups that share a love for music and are dedicated to bringing the joy of music to audiences. The Roslyn Music Group is made up of skilled musicians who commit their time to teaching music to students with special needs and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The Fortune Star Band includes student musicians from all over Nassau County who play variety of instruments and sing to bring joy to all audiences. Together, these groups create an exciting musical experience for everyone to enjoy!
The day began with us settling the residents into the recreational room and helping them start seasonal arts and crafts. Some residents worked on creating wreaths, while others enjoyed making Santas and reindeer. We even decorated a Fall tree with all residents’ and staff’s names on the leaves. As we continued with the crafts, the bands started to arrive and set up for their performance, and the excitement grew as the music began. The Syosset Fortune Star Band performed first, playing cheerful songs that had everyone clapping and singing along. Their set included popular favorites like Take On Me, Viva La Vida, Love Song of the West Sea, Dancing Queen, and even Happy Birthday, for any of the members who had their birthday In November. Then, the AYLUS Roslyn Music Group followed with five solos, each performed by a different member. They played Cello Concerto in C by Haydn, Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, The Swan by Saint-Saëns, Little Romance by Schumann, and La Paloma by Rieu. The beautiful music filled the room, and the residents swayed along, enjoying every melody.
After the performances, we spent time talking to the residents about their favorite parts of the show. It is heartwarming to hear that they want these musicians to visit them again. It was touching when one of residents expressed the gratitude and made comment that those musicians made change of their life. The music made the day extra special, bringing so much happiness to everyone. Last, we brought the residents to lunch.
We are grateful to the music groups for their performances and for helping us create such a joyful experience. We learned that working as a team is so important. The willingness to coordinate between the different groups achieved a great result. We are so glad to see smiles and joy on the faces of the residents. It is priceless. This visit was truly memorable, and we can’t wait to plan more special events like this in the future!
