Newtown AYLUS Members Tutor Math at Local Chinese School on 11/08/2024

Reported by Lucas Zhang

On Friday 11/8/2024, 2 members of AYLUS taught students ranging from third-graders to ninth-graders in various math topics at the local Chinese school, the Newtown Yardley Chinese School. Lucas Zhang (Event Leader) and Alex Hu participated, teaching from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

Our volunteers taught two different classes, one for younger students and one for older students. During the teaching time, the older students went over the properties of exponents, going through a few examples, engaging in AMC 10-level questions. We also shared our thoughts on the AMC10 exam some students just took. The younger students went over basic competition math (second part of questions in Kangaroo math 2012 for Grades 3-4). They also had an ice cream party after the class.

Both members had an enjoyable time teaching and felt that they had gotten through a considerable amount of content, positively impacting young students within the community by providing advanced math instruction and review.
