On Friday, October 4th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Roslyn Branch of AYLUS helped a community food drive called NOSH Delivers! by working at their food pantry to give food and products to families who could not afford them.
Nosh Delivers, a nonprofit organization in Glen Cove, is dedicated to addressing food insecurity in the North Shore Long Island community. Since its establishment in March 2020, Nosh Delivers has been a beacon of hope, providing weekly deliveries of nutritious groceries, known as NOSH bags, to needy families. Our volunteers and dedicated staff were crucial in organizing and preparing items for distribution over the coming week. They aimed to deliver over 200 NOSH bags, each carefully packed with ingredients for easy access. They filled every bag with fresh vegetables and helped in the Farmer’s Market by distributing bread, cheese, milk, meat, and other items to community members.
This experience was a profound learning opportunity. It taught us the value of teamwork and clear communication in achieving our goals. It also deepened our understanding of the importance of proper food handling. Through this work, we were reminded of how fortunate we are to have access to food, and it strengthened our appreciation for the resources we often overlook.
We look forward to returning and continuing our efforts, armed with this newfound knowledge.
