On Saturday, October 19th and Sunday October 20, 2024, members of the AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at the Nature Discovery Center Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival from 9:30AM to 1:30PM. The Pumpkin Patch Festival takes place every year and attracts hundreds of people around and outside the community with pumpkin-themed games, stalls, and events. They also sell a wide variety of pumpkins at the festival, including heirloom varieties. This year marks the third year the AYLUS Bellaire Branch has volunteered at the annual festival.
In the morning on both days, volunteers helped set up the assigned stations, which included face painting and the bouncy house. Once the event started, AYLUS members helped hold signs and cross tickets off while parents and children waited in line. At the face painting station, volunteers greeted the families and children with a cheerful attitude and offered a selection of Halloween-themed designs for children to choose from, including freehand drawings and stencils. Volunteers then used a wide range of colors to paint designs on children’s, teenagers’, and even parents’ faces. Popular designs included cat whiskers, pumpkins, unicorns, tigers, spiders, flowers, and more. Volunteers interacted with the children at the event with energetic attitudes and cleaned the brushes between each use.
Some volunteers also worked at the bouncy house to manage and facilitate the line. This included crossing off tickets, helping the children enter and exit the bouncy house, and managing the time allocated for each child to play in the bouncy house.
