Greater Tulsa Branch continued in creating plastic mats for homeless people on Oct.20, 2024

Reported by Kevin Chen

The Greater Tulsa Branch continued in making mats for homeless people on Sunday afternoon Oct. 20, 2024 at Tulsa Chinese Christian Church. We began by slicing plastic bags into long strips, then connecting them to create ropes, and ultimately crocheting those ropes into mats. After 2 hours, we had produced 4 plastic “yarn” balls, ready to be crocheted into mats and made 2 pieces of our own mats that will be done and sent off by next time. During the process of doing this, we as a group were able to discover how collective small efforts could really change a persons live, and the importance of the simple necessities that we take for granted. We also had a great fun together.

There were 9 AYLUS participants along with 2 parents participating. Here are the volunteering detailed hours:

Kaiting Hsu: 1 hour

Rosemary Li: 1 hour

Kevin Chen: 2 hours

Andrew Li: 2 hours

Justin Li: 2 hours

Anya McDaniel: 2 hours

Kaylin Chen: 2 hours

Hannah Flaherty: 2 hours

Kai McDaniel: 2 hours
