On Saturday, October 19th, from 2pm to 3:30pm, the Great Neck Branch of AYLUS hosted an AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) event at the Great Neck Public Library Parkville branch. AYLUS volunteers helped set up the event and got kids at the library to join. During the event, we read AAPI-themed books to young readers and organized various arts and crafts activities.
Our volunteers read the picture books included Anh’s New Word, Lao Lao’s Dumplings, and Amy Wu and the Warm Welcome. These books talked about celebrating AAPI, diversity, welcoming different cultures and inclusion. After the reading, we taught the kids how to make mini clay sculptures, origami and colored in coloring pages about AAPI. All the kids and volunteers enjoyed the event.
