The AYLUS Bellaire Branch organized a book donation drive for Books For Development on Saturday, October 12, 2024

AYLUS Bellaire Branch members organized a book drive and partnered with Books For Development to collect and donate 167 books on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Books For Development is a renowned non-profit organization that has delivered 1.5 million books worldwide and built over 500 libraries, including within developing countries in Africa and Latin America. The donated children’s books from AYLUS will be shipped to Belize in South America, as well as countries in Africa, including Uganda, Kenya, and Malawi. AYLUS Bellaire aims to foster a love of reading, organize library resources, and make a lasting impact on literacy and education in underprivileged communities.

Before meeting on October 12, branch member Miranda Wang designed and sent out a flier to the Houston community accepting book donations to be dropped off at an agreed location. Other members spent time collecting books within the community. From 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM on October 12, Isabel Li, Miranda Wang, Alexander Tang, and Daniel Wu organized book donations according to book genres. This included children’s books, graphic novels, young adult books, nonfiction, STEM books, and more. Then, members hand-delivered the books to the Books For Development Warehouse which will be shipped later that week to Belize and various other developing countries.
