On Friday 10/11/2024, 3 members of AYLUS taught students ranging from third-graders to ninth-graders in various math topics at the local Chinese school, the Newtown Yardley Chinese School. Lucas Zhang (Event Leader), Albert Chen, and Alex Hu participated, teaching from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Our volunteers taught two different classes, one for younger students and one for older students. During the teaching time, the older students went over the divisibility rules, covering basic knowledge and practical skills to solve problems related to divisibility, engaging in AMC 10-level questions. We also reminded the students to register for the upcoming AMC10 tests in November. The younger students went over basic competition math (first part of questions in Kangaroo math 2011 for Grades 3-4). To motivate the students to maintain a good classroom order, the volunteers also took the students to the lawn outside the school to have an ice cream social party.
All 3 members had an enjoyable time teaching and felt that they had gotten through a considerable amount of content, positively impacting young students within the community by providing advanced math instruction and review.
