Description of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch
Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch was established by Angel Shen, Xinyue (Sean) Sun, and Ruixian (Ransom) Liu.
According to AYLUS’s Mission: LEADERSHIP, INTEGRITY, and INNOVATION, we have established the development direction of “serving the community and growing together with the community” and recruiting junior and high school students as members. At present, we mainly focus on the following aspects:
- Caring for the elderly: The aging of the community is serious, and the elderly lack companionship and skills such as surfing the Internet and using smartphones or other electronics. By chatting with the elderly, we help them improve their ability to use new technologies. At the same time, we can create videos and take photos for the elderly to keep as memories. Members of Palos Verdes Peninsula’s AYLUS branch can learn from the elders’ life experiences through these conversations, all the while keeping them company.
- Caring for students: Due to COVID, all students were affected by the new learning environment of distance learning. Having returned to school this fall, we noticed that many children are having trouble keeping up with their courses and may need supplementary tutoring lessons. To help those students in need of support in their academics, we communicate with parents and schools to develop a learning plan for each student as well as provide them with extra tutoring sessions.
- Community services: Palos Verdes Peninsula has a long coastline, many parks, and botanical gardens, and requires environmental protection volunteers. We organize regular activities, such as beach cleaning, for members to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of environmental protection.
