AYLUS Orlando Branch, Adopt-a-Road Cleanup #7 (September 8th, 2024)

Reported by Dylan Wang

On September 8th, 2024, the AYLUS Orlando branch cleaned up the road that goes from Little Big Econ Canoe Launch all the way to Publix Super Market at Riverside Landings, a two-mile span. This is a stretch of CR419. In the span of an hour and thirty minutes, participants picked up debris, trash, plastic cups, and others beside the road. The goal of the adopt-a-road and highway programs are as follows:

“Volunteers enter into a two-year agreement with DOT, during which they agree to conduct litter removal at regularly scheduled intervals. Many miles of highway are adopted statewide by various organizations, allowing civic-minded people to make a difference in their communities. This eases the load of DOT work crews, enabling them to devote more time to other road maintenance and special highway projects.”

AYLUS Orlando fulfills these values and shares mutual interest in allowing civic-minded people in aiding public cleanliness, especially in the Oviedo area.

The participants did the following:

  • Pick up roughly 4 full bags of trash along the road.
  • Found multiple hazardous materials, such as sharp edges of a broken glass bottle and sharp bones, along with car bumpers and poles.
  • Properly disposed of many vapes/styrofoam/plastic products that could harm the environment.

This is the seventh cleanup of 12. This event occurred on September 8st, 2024.

The following members participated in the Adopt-a-road volunteer activity, 2 hours for following each person: Wendi Yang, Max Wang, Nathan Lu, Dylan Wang, Simon Gong, James Gong, and Jason Wang.
