On September 28th, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteers at Bethpage state park to participate in the Parks for Pollinators Bioblitz Campaign. For the month of September, observations of pollinators have been compiled for Bethpage State Park on iNaturalist. Volunteers helped find and take pictures of different species of pollinators that contributed to the environment there. Volunteers found a variety of animals, including bees, moths, lanternflies, and even a decapitated rabbit corpse!
From 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, the volunteers worked diligently, using their keen observation skills to spot and photograph unique bugs and insects in the park. Their contributions not only provided valuable data for scientists to study but also gave the volunteers an opportunity to learn more about the important role pollinators play in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. The event was a perfect blend of environmental education, citizen science, and hands-on learning, as the volunteers had the chance to observe the tiny, often-overlooked creatures that help sustain the park’s vibrant plant life.
Volunteers: Bryan Fan (2.5 hrs), Jonathan Fan (2 hrs), and Jake Wu (2 hrs).
