On September 21st, it is 124th event of the AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch. AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch partnered with Friends of Alley Pond Park to help with Estuary Day. Estuary Day is where they highlight the connection between Alley Pond Park and its estuary, and the importance of clean water. The weather was nice, sunny but with some wind so it wasn’t too hot.
Our members help with many different things. Some of our members did face painting, painting butterflies, starfish, fish, unicorns, and other things as well. The rest of our members help pick up trash, pass out booklets, and help hand our coloring papers and crayons. We had many people that came to face painting. Through using colorful colors, we help spread joy during the event. While some members were face painting, the members who currently don’t have anything to do went around seeing the different stands that are set up. There were stands talking about nature and animals, ranging from fishing to environmental centers. These stands taught us things, such as how to take care of animals and how to cast a fishing line. There were also games that were out. Some games are Jenga, Topple Tubes, Connect Four, and Canoeing. There even was a musician there playing music. Our members enjoyed the stands and activities when they had free time.
Thank you to Friends of Alley Pond Park for partnering with us for Estuary Day, and special thanks to Lorraine who helped us set everything up.
