On Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 9:00AM to 12:30PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers moved to their new location in May 2024. The new location is triple the size of the old pantry providing ample space to store enough non-perishable food and fresh produce to feed 600 families per week. The grand opening intended to attract more community members who might need help and potential donors who might want to support a good cause.
The grand opening event was set up at the NOSH parking lot where it had multiple stations for coffee and snacks, a farmers market and tables for arts and crafts including pumpkin decorating, face painting and NOSH bag decorating. We laid out the pumpkins and various decorating materials ready for attendees to visit. The children from the neighborhood were delighted to see all the different activities that were offered to them. We helped the kids choose their favorite stencils for face painting and painted on their faces or hands with crayons and markers. We guided the children on how to decorate pumpkins and NOSH bags with the provided crafting materials. Later when the event ended, we cleaned up messes, folded tables and chairs, and brought them back inside.
The event successfully brought attention to the neighborhood and brought a lot of new faces to learn more about NOSH and their goal of battling food insecurity in the community. We were honored to be one of the many volunteers who helped make the event successful.
