On 9/15/24, members of AYLUS Syosset went to the Long Island Fair in order to promote education to young children, by instructing and engaging children in activities that would develop their understanding of the environment and ecosystems around them. Members instructed these children at several booths, teaching them about the history of Long Island’s agriculture, current agricultural systems, as well as marine and terrestrial life. Members taught children that Long Island was primarily composed of duck and potato farms, underscored the various marine life such as fish, rocks, and crabs, and discussed the use of ocean life in agriculture, including hydroponic systems as well as discussing about exotic animals and incubation of chicks. Moreover, the children had been able to participate in a variety of activities such as making cards out of duck stamps made out of potatoes, viewing marine life and their natural habitats as well as the impacts they have on the environment, and a diverse amount of animals raised on the barn.
Members that participated include (All 4 hours): Anson Ye, Felix Zheng, and Andrew Lin.
