On Saturday 9/14/24, 9 members of AYLUS Newtown engaged in the Adopt-a-Trail project at Tyler State Park in Newtown, PA from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Our volunteers tidied the trail by identifying invasive, dangerous plants, removing them, and trimming shrubs and branches that encroached on the trail. In two hours, around one-third of the trail was cleared. We made the trail more accessible and safer by clearing dangerous plants, such as poison ivy and thorny plants. We have also made the trail aesthetically pleasing by tidying the excess leaves, branches, and shrubs. Lastly, we supported the ecosystem of the park by removing invasive plant species to allow more native plant species to thrive, subsequently increasing biodiversity.
Every member contributed to the project greatly and all had a dedicated attitude. They also enjoyed their time volunteering as they enjoyed nature and socializing with other members. But most importantly, our volunteers enjoyed fulfilling the project and the organization’s mission by having a positive impact on the local community.
Members who participated were Austin Choi (event leader), Lucas Zhang, Kylee Guo, Amber Yuan, Faye Xin, David Soong, Albert Chen, Ethan Huang, and Ivan Lee; all participated for two hours.
