On 9/14/2024, Jasmine Zheng and Eastwood Zhang volunteered at FAM food pantry for three and a half hours from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. The supervisor was Eastwood’s mom, Betty Zhou. The volunteers first sorted eggs by the dozen into cartons, checking for cracks in the shells as well as expired labels. After having sorted eight crates of egg cartons, Jasmine wheeled them on a cart to a walk-in fridge and stored the crates away. For the rest of the time, Eastwood and Jasmine made USDA FAM bags—bags of staple foods such as soup, beans, pasta or rice, vegetables, and meats. The volunteers’ work was finished once at least four cardboard holders (five feet in height and four feet in width) were full of the USDA FAM bags.
Participating members: Jasmine Zheng (3.5 hours), Eastwood Zhang (3 hours).
