On September 11th, 2024, AYLUS Syosset visited the Syosset Fire Department for 9/11 candlelight memorial day, coordinated with Chief Eysser. Over 60 AYLUS members from elementary to high school kids were able to come together to dedicate their time to remembering those lost in the September 11th attacks. Members thanked the Syosset Fire Department for its dedication to protecting our local community in the form of immediate selfless actions taken to rescue and search for those in the buildings affected. We also thanked them for their involvement in many school events such as their lessons teaching us driving and fire safety.
The Department also engages in extensive community education, mitigation of fires, first-aid medical care and countless other invaluable services. AYLUS Syosset is extremely grateful to those that dedicate their time to training in their program and of course, those who are full-time firefighters and professionals.
We listened to preachings and songs that commemorated the lost lives. We also set up candles and flowers on the memorial across from the Fire Department. Many members of AYLUS Syosset decided to make a wide array of homemade baked goods to give to the Department, another ongoing tradition.
The attacks of September 11th, 2001 needs no introduction. The twin towers served as an immensely important building consisting of thousands of workers, companies and tourists. Close to 3,000 lives were taken in the World Trade Center and 125 were taken in the Pentagon. Countless lives continued to be taken as a result of the lasting impacts of the immeasurable amounts of smoke and debris and more were taken as a result of those who gave up their lives saving those in danger.
