In September, the Greater Princeton & Far Beyond Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Crafts for Hope Committee hosted events at the Plainsboro Public Library Community Room.
Participants learned how to crochet chemo hats for cancer patients with Kathie Wang. No previous experience needed. Limited materials provided. Sign up with QR code, or use the link: https://forms.gle/XMANEmdp1khJvxGz7
For our project, we’ll be using a 5 or 5.5mm hook and number 4 medium weight acrylic yarn, for a total of 200-250 yards. Bright colors would be helpful to create an uplifting tone for the patient.
We recommend the Red Heart Soft or With Love yarns, as they are ideal for sensitive skin.

These items are being given freely to people taking treatment for cancer. Abide by the following when donating your items:
Must be new – never worn
Clean – free of perfume, pet hair and smoke
Placed individually in clear ziplock style plastic bags
Soft yarn is best- cotton, acrylic, silk, fleece or a blend is best. Do not use wool or alpaca as they can irritate the scalp.
We accept baby, children, youth, and adult hats.
Please use patterns that do not have gaps or large holes. A tighter stitch is best so that it covers the scalp. See our list of free chemo cap patterns.
Be sure to wash your hands regularly while making the caps.
