On August 25th, 2024, the AYLUS Orlando branch conducted a large-scale book sorting and packaging event at our warehouse, where we stored a collection of 2,500 books. This event was an essential part of our ongoing efforts to support literacy initiatives by ensuring that these donated books are properly organized and ready for distribution to communities in need, including those supported by Tito Peter’s Free Public Library in the Philippines.
We are assisting Tito Peter’s Public Library through these donations. Tito Peter’s Public Library is a community-driven initiative located in Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines. It serves as a free public library aimed at providing access to educational resources, books, and learning materials to individuals of all ages, especially those in underserved areas. The library’s mission is to promote literacy, foster a love for reading, and create opportunities for personal growth and education in the local community. By offering a space for learning and development, Tito Peter’s Public Library plays a vital role in addressing the literacy gap and empowering future generations.
Participants arrived at the warehouse and immediately began the meticulous process of unpacking the books from the hundred or so boxes in which they were stored. Each box was carefully detached and unfolded, and the materials were properly disposed of to maintain a clean and efficient workspace. With the books now accessible, the team spread them out across the warehouse floor, arranging them into piles of 12 for an accurate count. This task required patience and attention to detail, as the sheer volume of books meant that the counting process was time-consuming.
Once all the books were organized into piles, the participants conducted a final count by tallying the individual stacks. After confirming the total, the books were gathered into a single, condensed area for a group photo, capturing the hard work and dedication of the team. Finally, the books were repacked into boxes, carefully prepared for packaging and shipment to their final destinations.
AYLUS Participants did the following:
- Unpacked 3,500 books from over 100 boxes, detaching and properly disposing of the boxes.
- Sorted the books into piles of 12 for accurate counting, spreading them across the warehouse floor.
- Conducted a final count of the books by tallying the piles, ensuring an accurate total.
- Repacked the books into boxes, preparing them for packaging and shipment.
