On Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers is an organization in Glen Cove that aims to increase access to food as well as basic goods and services to those in need.
Today, volunteers started off by creating NOSH bags, filling them with fresh produce and bringing them outside to be distributed. As boxes of food came in, we helped unpack and organize the goods. The boxes contained both fresh produce and shelf-stable items. Going through the boxes, we made sure to keep the shelves stocked properly. We took out the bins and unpacked snacks to make sure the food was available to the people who were coming in. As more people began coming in to get food, we assisted in helping them get what they needed off the shelves. We also had time to decorate paper bags for kid lunches and pack them with kid friendly meals. As items were being taken off the shelves, we made sure to keep restocking items too. Since goods were unpacked and restocked, we also brought the empty boxes outside to be reused and recycled.
Volunteering at NOSH provided us with a new and unique perspective, showing us the importance of helping others and how powerful coming together as a community can be. Working together improves and positively impacts so many people’s lives and we are excited to continue doing so.
