Reported by Jessica Lu :
On August 17th, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS members went to a NAMI walk meeting.
NAMI is the biggest mental health grassroots organization in the nation, where they support mental health through walks, fundraisers, classes, and more. Members attended a meeting that went over what NAMI is, how to create a team for the upcoming walk, how they operate, classes they offer for people who struggle with mental health, and even had a small raffle for prizes. Upon arriving, members helped set up the lunch bar, putting out fruits, drinks, sandwiches, meats, chips, and bread. Then, they put their names in a basket for a raffle, consisting of hats and mugs. Members then introduced themselves and their group to the rest of the attendees and listened attentively on how to make signs and volunteer at the walk. At the end, members won a hat from the raffle and took home papers and materials needed to make signs. They also got to know everybody there and chatted with them.
