AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch Care for Community Garden (08/17/2024)

This is the 110th event hosted by AYLUS Oakland Gardens. On Saturday, August 17th, 2024, AYLUS Oakland Gardens Members went to their community garden to help grow and nurture the plants there. Our members had a lot of fun and were happy that the plants were growing well.

At the start of the event, AYLUS Oakland Gardens Members unraveled the hoses and turned on the water. We used the hoses to fill up buckets and water the plants directly. But we stumbled into a problem. One of the flower beds was drying out because the plants were absorbing the water quicker. To solve this problem, we watered the flower bed more than the others. A lot of the plants, like tomato plants, were starting to bear edible fruit. This is because our time and effort has helped these plants grow. They needed lots of water and sunlight, which we helped provide. Our members then weeded the flower beds. There were a lot of grass and clovers, so our members did our best to pluck all of them to leave the nutrients to the plants. Before we left, our members picked some ripe vegetables such as tomatoes and shared them with the community.
