On Friday, August 16th, from 4pm to 5pm, the Great Neck Branch of AYLUS hosted an AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) event at the Great Neck Public Library. During the event, AYLUS volunteers read AAPI-themed books to young readers, read Chinese children’s Song, listened to Chinese folk music and organized various crafts activities.
Rebecca Xu read the book “A Gift for Nai Nai,” , then Siyue and Siwen introduced our children fa pellation and read Chinese children’s song. Henry read the book “Say My Name,” and talked about chinese last name with our childern. Victoria read the book “The Many Colors of Harpreet Singh.” after that, Henry introduced a traditional Chinese musical instrument Suona and listened to the “Hundreds Birds Worshipping the Phoenix. Through these readings and activities, everyone learned about cultures.
After the reading, we provided coloring materials, sticks, white fan and Playdoh for the children. Our volunteers decorated the fan and play the Playdoh with the children. Everyone enjoyed the activities and learned a lot. Overall, it was a truly happy day, and we want to thank everyone who joined us!
