AYLUS Great Neck Branch Volunteered at The Arboretum State Park on 8/10/2024 (38th)

On Saturday, August 10 2024 , from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteered at The Arboretum State Park. Multiple historic plant species are preserved there for people to come to visit and view.We volunteer to pull weeds and remove invasive species such as the English ivy. Our main goal is to remove as much English ivy and fallen chestnuts as possible from a designated area.

We have two work areas, one area is dedicated to clearing English ivy and the other is for clearing English ivy and chestnut.First, the volunteers were divided into groups, some of which were responsible for cleaning the English ivy and others were responsible for cleaning the chestnuts. The volunteers then identified and pulled out the plants that needed to be removed and loaded them onto trailers in large buckets. Finally, a tow truck took away all the ivy and chestnuts on the car.

Invasive species destroy the biodiversity in the environment. If they are not removed on time and allowed to reproduce smoothly, they will not only deprive other plant species of their ability to survive, but will also lead to a reduction in biodiversity and even cause irreversible negative impacts on the biosphere of the area. According to this statement, volunteer activities to clean up invasive plants are very important and meaningful activities. We volunteers should protect the natural environment from being invaded by species. We enjoy doing this and hope that we can do our best.
