On Thursday, August 8th, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers, a non-profit organization in Glen Cove dedicated to helping families facing food insecurity. Their mission is to improve the well-being of the North Shore community by increasing access to food and essential goods and services.
Today, we assisted customers who were waiting for their food and restocked shelves that were running low on supplies. Although we had fewer varieties of supplies than usual, we made the most of what we had. We moved boxes of goods to keep the shelves stocked and organized them to ensure everything was ready for future customers. We disassembled numerous cardboard boxes and took them to the recycling place. Due to the rain, we didn’t need to distribute flyers in the neighborhood. Instead, we sorted through various boxes of vegetables to check for spoilage, spending time inspecting boxes of cucumbers and carrots to ensure they were still fresh. NOSH is committed to guaranteeing that all items are fresh before they are distributed to the community.
Helping NOSH was an eye-opening experience. As we distributed food and supported those in need, we saw the significant impact our efforts can have. We learned the crucial role of helping families meet their basic needs and witnessed firsthand how our actions positively affect the community. This highlights the significance of working together and serves as a reminder that even small contributions can create meaningful change.
