Today, August 3rd, 2024, is the 101st event of the AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch. This event marks the one year anniversary of the AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch. This event is a celebration of all that we have accomplished for the past year, as well as a way to give happiness to the community. Our team has been preparing for this celebration for three months, making sure to go over everything so there will be less unexpected obstacles.
Our members help set up our activities for today’s celebration. We put tables and any equipment for our stations in the designated areas. We made sure that these designated areas have shade so no one would overheat from directly standing under the sun. Our activities contain Balloon Making, Face Painting, Three Leg Race, Twister, Flagged Tag, Screaming Chicken, Potato Sack Race, Shuttlecock Kicking, Archery, and Cloth Wheel Racing. Each station had our members rotate in shifts so everyone could get time to enjoy the celebration. Our members are put into two groups, Group A and Group B. Group A helps manage the stations while Group B can either help or enjoy the stations themselves. Once the time is up for Group A’s shift, the groups switch so everyone gets to enjoy themselves.
As this celebration is open to the community, we had many families coming by to have fun. As our activities were not limited to just children and adults can participate, we had adults join in on the fun. Everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves. Even Roxana, a park supervisor, stopped by to have fun.
At the end of the event, our members help put everything away and clean the park space, leaving the area with a day to remember. Our team would like to thank all our members for their hard work, starting from last year when our branch was founded till now. We would also like to give thanks to our parents and parent advisors for supporting us in every way they can, helping us and guiding us to grow as individuals.
