Food banks play a crucial role in supporting communities by alleviating hunger and food insecurity. They focus on helping vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and low-income individuals access nutritious food. Additionally, food banks help reduce waste by rescuing surplus food from retailers, manufacturers, and farms, contributing to sustainable resource management. RCA members have regularly volunteered at various food relief organizations. On July 24th, two RCA members lent a helping hand to a local organization dedicated to combating hunger. During their 2-hour shift, they were assigned to sort through produce, recovering items still fit for consumption. Food waste is a global issue, with billions of tons wasted annually. Food banks assist with food rescue and the distribution of this rescued food to the community, a cause RCA is proud to support.
