On Saturday, July 27th, 2024, from 9 am to 12 pm, AYLUS Roslyn volunteered at
NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers is an organization striving to increase the access to
food, common goods and basic services across the North Shore community.
NOSH Delivers provides many programs and opportunities to receive food every
week as they are open 5 days a week, have a food hotline, and offer free deliveries to
people who don’t have the transportation to get there, or work during hours the food
pantry is open. A new program that NOSH Delivers is running is a quick and easy “Bags
to go”, lunch, breakfast and snack bags that are offered to families with children who
need to have a meal when schools are closed and no free meals are offered. We
decorated the brown paper bags with colorful gems, stickers and markers. We used our
creativity to make the paper bags as decorative and uplifting as possible. We wanted
the kids to receive those bags as if they were to receive a gift. We created the breakfast
bags with oatmeal, boxed milk and granola bars. The lunch bags were filled with mac
and cheese or ramen, water and a snack. These bags were made to make kids feel like
they were thought of and that they were very special. We gave out some bags to kids
and immediately saw their faces light up.
Another task that we accomplished was to sort through a mountain high of
boxes that were just delivered containing many different types of food and snacks. We
sorted the donated food into different categories. We labeled the boxes and stacked
them neatly so that they could be used when stock runs low. At the end of the day, we
restocked the pantry and prepared the shelves for the next couple of days.
