On Tuesday, July 23rd, from 9:00 A.M. to 1 P.M, members of the Aylus Roslyn Branch volunteered at NOSH Delivers. NOSH is a food pantry helping people who were affected by the pandemic by helping them with extra groceries and food.
The first task that we did was to make NOSH bags. These are for families affeteed by the pandemic in Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Glen Head, Locust Valley and Bayville. We made around 50 bags. These bags contained 1 zucchini, 2 lettuce, and 2 corn. These bags are used to help and deliver food and groceries to people that don’t have the proper transportation such as, the elderly, the disabled, or to parents. These bags were sent outside to be handed out charging nothing.
After bagging these bags, we helped restock the shelves and help the families. There weren’t as much people as normal because it was a Tuesday, but they still got a good amount of people. We saw what people liked. We saw many families bring their kids to choose their favorite snacks and drinks. It was a good feeling to see how even in tough times, they still cared for their children.
We started working on new NOSH bags. We made around 20-30 bags. These bags contained 1 can of tomato soup, 1 can of corn, beans, pasta, 1 can of pineapple and bread. These bags also were going to be sent to families in the general area.
Working with NOSH Deliveries we had a great experience to see how we can help the community with our actions. We would definitely come back to volunteer again from this experience.
