On July 20th, the Syosset AYLUS organization went to Bethpage State Park to plant for the park’s restoration efforts. We were taken to a greenhouse where we were accompanied by staff who assigned tasks such as separating plants and potting them into small containers, as well as placing seeds into envelopes. While some members planted more plants outside, others were inside the greenhouse handling seeds. We placed seeds such as pale purple cornflower, which offers benefits such as anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, making it suitable for wound healing and treating skin diseases by reducing swelling. These plants typically mature within 1-2 years with proper care. Additionally, we planted Yarrow, which produce white flowers and typically grow within 3 months. Yarrow is known for benefits such as alleviating stomach cramps and fighting infections. We also had another section where members would be weeding which is when before the plant produces a seed head, to prevent seeds from spreading also the process of removing unwanted plants from a field. Overall, our efforts were successful in completing various tasks to support planting at the Bethpage State Park greenhouse with the help of the Syosset AYLUS Organization.
