AYLUS Syosset Members help at Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center 7/20/24

On July 20, 2024, members of AYLUS Syosset volunteered at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center. The team engaged in several significant activities, including removing duckweed from the pond, plucking weeds, and cutting overhanging branches along the path. These tasks are crucial for maintaining the sanctuary’s ecological health and visitor experience. Removing duckweed from the pond helps prevent the overgrowth that can suffocate aquatic life and disrupt the ecosystem balance. Plucking weeds ensures that native plants have the space and nutrients they need to thrive, promoting biodiversity. Cutting overhanging branches improves the safety and accessibility of walking paths for visitors. The volunteers’ efforts contribute to the sanctuary’s mission of conservation and education. Their dedication helps preserve the natural beauty and ecological integrity of this vital community resource.
