West Essex AYLUS supports special skating team at national TOI competition on 6/29

On 6/29/24, West Essex members volunteered with Essex special skating team at the 15th Annual National Theatre On Ice Competition in Evansville, Indiana at the Ford Center.

Eighty teams traveled to Evansville, Indiana, for 2024 National Theatre on Ice.

Held June 25-29 at Ford Center, teams competed for theatrical skating titles across nine divisions: preliminary, intermediate, juvenile, novice, junior, senior, open, adult and adaptive.

Theatre On Ice (TOI) is a form of competitive figure skating that combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theatre and dance. Theatre On Ice teams consist of eight to 30 skaters  telling a story together on the ice. TOI brings skaters together and gives them the chance to be a part of a team, travel locally and internationally, and make new friends.

West Essex members served as mentors for special needs skaters in Essex Special Skating team.  The team competed in adaptive free style program.  On 6/29, mentors practiced the movement with special skaters during the official practice time in the morning.  Then the mentors helped the team skate a zootopia themed program on ice in the afternoon.  At night an award ceremony was held at the Ford Center.
West Essex members (6 hours each): Teesta Bhola, Owen He, Christina Chakhtoura, Olivia Rowell, Stephanie (Maddie) Santoriello, Jennie (Zihua Zhang)
