Murrieta AYLUS Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley #22– ABWK Senior Home Yard Works (7/13/2024)

Reported by Adora Xiao :

On July 13th, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS members volunteered with the A Brush with Kindness project.
As the volunteers arrived at the check in site, they received shirts and instructions for the homes they would be going to. After a short meeting to review the goals for the day, the volunteers drove to their allocated site. They were given a briefing for the goals for the site, then got to work. Starting in the front of the home, the work included pulling various weeds and cutting down a large overgrowth of a bamboo like plants. They also trimmed a large bush down to its skeletal branches as the branches grew too fast. Migrating to the sides of the home, the dirt was nearly covered in weeds of various sizes. The volunteers removed the weeds carefully into various piles, before folding out trash bags to throw away the growth. They took various breaks to cool off from the sun, then went back to rake over the area to clear the straggling weeds. Doing another round of weeding, they then swept across all sides of the home to clear off the pathways and bag all the remaining weeds. After dragging out the bags to the front, the volunteers finished off a different bush by trimming it so it wouldn’t go beyond its container, then trashed the discarded branches. Throwing the bags onto a truck and putting away the tools, they then took a few drinks before leaving.
