On July 6th, Jericho Branch partnered with the Audubon Society for their “Be a Good Egg” program at Sunken Meadow Beach. Our team set up an information booth near the beach entrance, encouraging visitors to take the pledge to protect shorebird eggs by avoiding nesting areas, keeping pets on leashes, and properly disposing of trash.
We handed out stickers and educational coloring books to children who took the pledge, helping them learn about shorebirds and the importance of conservation. Throughout the day, we engaged in meaningful conversations with beachgoers, explaining the critical role shorebirds play in the coastal ecosystem and the threats they face.
Many visitors expressed their support for the initiative, and by the end of the day, we had gathered numerous pledges, reflecting a strong community commitment to protecting our coastal wildlife. It was a rewarding experience to see so many people eager to contribute to the conservation efforts and learn more about the natural environment around them.
