Jericho Branch Beach Clean up at Sunken Meadow Beach on 7/8/2024

On July 8th, Jericho Branch teamed up with the Audubon Society for a beach cleanup event at Sunken Meadow Beach. The day started with volunteers gathering at the designated meeting point, where they were provided with gloves, trash bags, and litter pickers. We spent several hours combing the beach, picking up all kinds of trash including plastic bottles, cans, food wrappers, and other debris that had washed ashore or been left behind by visitors. Our efforts not only helped to improve the appearance and health of the beach but also protected the local wildlife from the hazards of pollution.

After the cleanup, the Audubon Society led us on an educational bird walk. An experienced guide pointed out various species of shorebirds, seabirds, and migratory birds that inhabit the area. We learned about their behaviors, feeding habits, and the importance of preserving their natural habitats. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to environmental conservation while also gaining a deeper appreciation for the wildlife at Sunken Meadow Beach.

Members participated (all 2 hours): Kelly Lin, Mack Tam, Syra Farhat, Chloe Yang, Mandy Lin, Lori Li
