On Saturday, June 29th, from 9 AM to 12 PM, the Roslyn Branch of Aylus volunteered at NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers is a nonprofit founded in March of 2020 to bring food to local families who struggle with food insecurity. They also have a food pantry where families can pick up their own groceries, which is where we volunteered.
When we arrived at the food pantry, we were split into two groups. One group would organize and stock non-perishable items in a grocery store-esque area of the building, while the other would give out produce and refrigerated items, including but not limited to bread, yogurt, cheese, eggs, beef, pork, apples and oranges. Shortly after we were given our jobs, many people started showing up. They were all very friendly and cooperative and acted like close friends to the organizers.
From this experience we learned that we should help provide for the community and be thankful for our financial stability. We would love to come back and volunteer another time.
