On 6/23/24, members of AYLUS Syosset, AYLUS Oyster Bay and UCODA performed for the disabled at the AHRC main campus in Brookville. We started to set up at 1:30 pm and the performance started at 2:00 pm. Syosset iSchool’s Fortune Star Band performed 5 songs, followed by a chamber ensemble and 5 solo performances.
UCODA or the United Community Oriented Development Association, is a non-profit volunteer organization based in Syosset that gives back to the community through a variety of ways. Their mission is to provide services exclusively to disabled/disadvantaged groups, children, women, and other minority groups which include educational programs for children, health care treatments, youth sports, culture events and family security services. They also help with planning, funding, constructing, and maintaining community center(s) for there groups as they advocate to build a fair and safe society.
The AHRC advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead full and equitable lives.They call for change in legislation and public policy, and advocate for better education, living arrangements, prospects for work and fuller lives in the community.
The purpose of this performance was to bring joy and happiness to the disable children of our community that the AHRC supports through our shared passion for music whether it was through our voices, or our instruments.
