The AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteers at Nissequogue State Park

This week at Nissequogue State Park, we were cutting down and pulling out invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed, wineberry, and mugwort in an experimented area of the park. The experiment used “the power of three,” which meant that if an invasive plant, in this case being Japanese knotweed, was cut down three times each year for three years, the invasive plants would weaken, allowing for more native plants to thrive. Volunteers worked from 9:30 to 12:00.

Volunteers: Breanna Orantes (3 hrs) and Katie Orantes (2.5 hrs).
