Murrieta AYLUS Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley #20– ABWK Senior Home Painting Project (6/15/2024)

Reported by Adora Xiao :

On June 15th, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS members helped with the A Brush with Kindness program.
Starting the day with helping tape off the areas, the volunteers lined the home and the shed with tape and brown paper so that paint wouldn’t drip onto the cement. They then laid out tarps for an extra layer of protection. After a brief safety demonstration, the volunteers got to work. Starting with the side of the home, they worked at different elevations to cover as much area as they could. Checking their work and applying second coats, they also caught runs of paint as they arose and made sure their work was clean and didn’t touch on parts they weren’t supposed to. After finishing the garage side of the home, the volunteers took a short break before working on the porch side of the home. Finishing the porch rapidly, the volunteers then ventured into the sweltering heat in the back of the home. After finishing the back of the home, they added finishing touches to the sides of the door on the porch, before helping with cleanup. They undid the papers and tapes they’d laid out before folding up the tarps and loading them onto the truck, then bid goodbye to the site.
