Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Food Bank (52nd) (6/12/2024)

Reported by Jessica Lu :

On June 12th, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS members volunteered at their local food bank.
Members first signed in before starting off by sorting the breads and pastries. They organized them into their respective categories before helping make food boxes. Members were in charge of the produce and bread/dessert sections, so they would put 3 types of bread and two desserts, with an extra add-on if needed for each food box. After finishing a couple, the supervisor asked members for help packing grapefruits, where they would bag 10 grapefruits per bag. When the food bank was officially open, everyone had a quick meeting before separating into their jobs. Members went outside to help pass out food. Time went by quickly as they diligently put the food onto the carts and carried it onto the cars. After an hour or so, the supervisor called members in for a break and switched them out with another group so they could get some water and AC. Then, they were called to help in the dry-foods area, where they unboxed food, and set them up so they could be ready to bag for people. Members finished off by cleaning up the area and wiping down all surfaces.
