San Diego Branch hosted the Bake Sale for Food Bank on May 26, 2024

Reported by Ziyu Yang

In the year 2021, an alarming 828 million people worldwide faced starvation, marking an
increase of 150 million compared to the previous year. Year after year, starvation levels
rise; each year, countless lives are lost due to insufficient nutrition. In response to this
crisis, our four-person team organized a bake sale to raise donations needed by the
people. Partnering with the Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States (AYLUS), we
aimed to make a difference, and even if that difference only has a small impact, it is that impact that
can still help someone in need.

On May 26, 2024, we activated our initiative at Powerhouse Park to gain donations for
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. With a commitment to making our
desserts affordable for everyone, we successfully sold approximately 37 items, raising
around $50. Despite the long wait from 2:25 PM to 5:20 PM, we were delighted to
contribute to such a noble cause knowing that the money would be able to feed
someone in a tough environment.

Our collective efforts, although modest, reflect our dedication to helping alleviate hunger
and supporting our society. We are all people, and everyone deserves a warm meal.

The following AYLUS members dedicated their time to this fundraising event, and each received 3.0 service hours (1.0 hour bake time, 1.5 hours event time, 0.5 hours preparation and cleanup):
